The Council of Representatives speaks with your voice

A cooperative’s Council of Representatives represents the co-op members in the governance of the cooperative. It makes decisions and serves as the voice of the members, communicating with the management of the cooperative to provide development ideas and requests to improve the cooperative’s services.

The representatives reflect the owners

What kind of Council will be elected depends on you and the other co-op members – only you have the right to vote in the elections of the Council of Representatives.The Council of Representatives has traditionally reflected the co-op members. The Council has consisted of people such as retail cashiers, construction workers, nurses, office workers and career politicians. What they all share is an interest in the cooperative. We encourage our members of different ages and backgrounds to stand as candidates. There is no need of prior experience.

The Council of Representatives elects the Supervisory Board

The cooperative’s Council of Representatives elects a Supervisory Board whose task is to monitor the business operations of the cooperative and decide on matters such as significant changes in the scope of operations, confirm the cooperative’s strategy, and elect the Executive Board and Managing Director.

The Council of Representatives adopts the financial statements

A cooperative’s Council of Representatives adopts the cooperative’s financial statements and decides how any surplus in the balance sheet is used. The Council of Representatives also makes decisions about any changes to the bylaws of the cooperative or merger projects.

Elections every four years

The term of office of the Council of Representatives is always four years. The Council of Representatives meets at least twice a year.
